Lifelong chiropractic educator and Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) Class of 1983 alumnus and longtime professor, Dr. Keith Andrew Wells passed away on Jan. 26, 2023 in Syracuse, New York. He was 67 years old.
Elections were recently held for the 2023 annual Program Student Senator positions. The Senate is comprised of Senators elected by members from their respective academic programs. Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) recognized 50 Master of Science: Physician Assistant (MSPA) students today with a white coat ceremony held at the SCU campus in Whittier. The ceremony transitions students from the didactic portion of the program into supervised clinical practice, symbolizing their entrance into the healthcare field. The White Coat Ceremony is considered a rite of passage for PA students and is designed to instill the values of professionalism, humanism and compassionate care with students reciting the Physician Assistant Professional Oath.

James Whedon DC, MS, Professor & Director of Health Services Research, and colleagues were recently published in BMC Geriatrics, an open access journal publishing original peer-reviewed research articles in all aspects of the health and healthcare of older people, including the effects of healthcare systems and policies. Their article, “Association between cervical artery dissection and spinal manipulative therapy –a medicare claims analysis,” evaluated the association between cervical spinal manipulation and cervical artery dissection in older Medicare beneficiaries, in the United States. Dr. Whedon answers several questions about cervical artery dissection, how common it is, who may be at risk, how to prevent it, and more.

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) has announced that its Ayurveda Department has recently renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, in India. Amrita is one of India’s top-ranked private universities, with seven campuses located in Amaravati, Amritapuri, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Kochi, and Mysuru and a new upcoming campus at NCR Delhi (Faridabad). Amrita is accredited ‘A++’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous body established in 1994 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. Amrita is ranked as one of the best research institutions in India.
Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) has announced that its Ayurvedic Wellness Educator Certificate Program and Ayurvedic Practitioner Program at has been granted Candidacy for Accreditation status by the National Ayurvedic Medicine Accreditation Council (NAMAC). SCU is the first ayurvedic program in the U.S. to receive NAMAC’s Candidacy for Accreditation status. NAMAC is a programmatic accrediting agency for clinically focused Ayurvedic medical programs.
Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) announced the annual 2022 Faculty Award winners during the Jan. 6, 2023 Provost’s Forum. SCU Faculty Awards recognize outstanding faculty for their achievements in the areas of teaching, service and scholarship. The university-wide recognition is also a means to encourage faculty to continue to excel in their professional fields and express appreciation for their contributions to SCU and to the field of healthcare.
