SCU Health announces June 2023 date for free Community Outreach Clinic

Southern Californians can receive free Chiropractic Care and have their vitals checked by a physician assistant at an upcoming SCU Health Tent Event community outreach clinic in East Whittier. SCU Health offers free clinics in a continuing effort to serve the community with integrative healthcare services, increase the awareness of integrative healthcare benefits, and provide students with clinical experience and patient treatment. SCU Health’s Tent Event will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023 from 1–4 p.m. on the campus of Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU), at the Sports Medicine Clinic inside Building T, across from the University Health Center. The campus is located at 16200 Amber Valley Drive Whittier, CA 90604.

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) recognized 45 Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) students today with a white coat ceremony at the SCU campus in Whittier. The ceremony transitions students from the academic portion of the program into supervised clinical practice, symbolizing their entrance into the healthcare field. The White Coat Ceremony is considered a rite of passage for health sciences students and is designed to instill the values of professionalism, humanism and compassionate care with students reciting the Oath of Professionalism.

Their article, “Association between cervical artery dissection and spinal manipulative therapy –a medicare claims analysis,” evaluated the association between cervical spinal manipulation and cervical artery dissection in older Medicare beneficiaries, in the United States. Dr. Whedon answers several questions about cervical artery dissection, how common it is, who may be at risk, how to prevent it, and more.

SCU Health Research receives half-million dollar NIH grant to advance neck pain study in collaboration with Dartmouth, Palmer universities

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) researchers have received a half-million dollar National Institutes of Health (NIH) R15 grant to advance understanding of spinal manipulative therapy for neck pain. The grant is a two-year award study, with research work getting underway in January 2023. NIH R15 grants support small-scale research projects at educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the nation's research scientists but that have not been major recipients of NIH support. The grant and study is a renewal and continuation of an ongoing study that was first funded by the NIH in 2018, during which SCU researchers were investigating patients with low back pain.
