Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) recognized 50 Master of Science: Physician Assistant (MSPA) students today with a white coat ceremony held at the SCU campus in Whittier. The ceremony transitions students from the didactic portion of the program into supervised clinical practice, symbolizing their entrance into the healthcare field. The White Coat Ceremony is considered a rite of passage for PA students and is designed to instill the values of professionalism, humanism and compassionate care with students reciting the Physician Assistant Professional Oath.

Their article, “Association between cervical artery dissection and spinal manipulative therapy –a medicare claims analysis,” evaluated the association between cervical spinal manipulation and cervical artery dissection in older Medicare beneficiaries, in the United States. SCU Ayurveda Program announces renewed agreement with Amrita University in India

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) has announced that its Ayurveda Department has recently renewed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) agreement with Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University, in India. Amrita is one of India’s top-ranked private universities, with seven campuses located in Amaravati, Amritapuri, Bengaluru, Chennai, Coimbatore, Kochi, and Mysuru and a new upcoming campus at NCR Delhi (Faridabad). Amrita is accredited ‘A++’ by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous body established in 1994 by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. Amrita is ranked as one of the best research institutions in India.

Ayurveda Program at SCU announces NAMAC Candidacy Status

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) has announced that its Ayurvedic Wellness Educator Certificate Program and Ayurvedic Practitioner Program at has been granted Candidacy for Accreditation status by the National Ayurvedic Medicine Accreditation Council (NAMAC). SCU is the first ayurvedic program in the U.S. to receive NAMAC’s Candidacy for Accreditation status. NAMAC is a programmatic accrediting agency for clinically focused Ayurvedic medical programs.

SCU Health Research receives half-million dollar NIH grant to advance neck pain study in collaboration with Dartmouth, Palmer universities

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) researchers have received a half-million dollar National Institutes of Health (NIH) R15 grant to advance understanding of spinal manipulative therapy for neck pain. The grant is a two-year award study, with research work getting underway in January 2023. NIH R15 grants support small-scale research projects at educational institutions that provide baccalaureate or advanced degrees for a significant number of the nation's research scientists but that have not been major recipients of NIH support. The grant and study is a renewal and continuation of an ongoing study that was first funded by the NIH in 2018, during which SCU researchers were investigating patients with low back pain.
