Biography
Amanda began her scientific career working as a veterinary technician where her passion for the intersection of science and communication was born. After earning a BS in Biology and MA in Education from Virginia Tech, she took this passion for science communication to the classroom where she taught high school science at various public, charter, and private institutions. Here she honed her skills as a science communicator, giving her the ability to convey complex scientific processes in a way that everyone can understand. It is her mission to instill scientific passion in her students. After nearly a decade teaching high school, she decided to pursue an MS in Biology from California State University, Northridge with the hopes of moving her education goals to the college-level classroom. In her MS program, she researched antibiotic resistance in Escherichia coli bacteria, particularly the physiology of how Gram-negative multidrug antibiotic efflux pumps affect cell growth and metabolism.
