Assistant Professor I
Current Position
Biography
Dr. Brett Buford is a core faculty member within Southern California University of Health Science’s Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OT) program. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Buford completed his clinical-track doctoral residency at the University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD) at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, where he gained experience working with children across the lifespan who presented with often co-occurring developmental disabilities and mental health diagnoses.
Dr. Buford has also served as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Occupational Therapy at the University of Southern California, where he was also the Director of Occupational Therapy services at the Violence Intervention Program (VIP), a community-based, outpatient, pediatric mental health clinic in which he both coordinated and provided OT services as well as offered clinical supervision to fieldwork students and doctoral residents progressing through their OT programs. This experience offered Dr. Buford program development, leadership, and advocacy experience as well, given the fact that he was the first to lay the groundwork for the OT program at VIP.
Dr. Buford also served as Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at Keck Graduate Institute. In this role, Dr. Buford contributed to the development of KGI's emerging, entry-level, OTD program by creating syllabi and developing curriculum for psychosocial OT coursework specifically.
