Biography

Professor Hossain is an accomplished chemistry educator with over 12 years of experience specializing in organic chemistry instruction. His teaching journey includes 2.5 years as an undergraduate teaching assistant, 5 years as a graduate teaching assistant, and over 5 years as a university instructor. Currently serving as an adjunct lecturer at Southern California University of Health Sciences, he has delivered extensive coursework across diverse formats, including 8 in-person laboratory courses, 15 online synchronous laboratories, 13 in-person lectures, 12 synchronous online lectures, and 22 asynchronous online lectures.

Recognized for his ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex chemical concepts, Professor Hossain has successfully tailored curricula to meet accelerated learning timelines and has consistently incorporated Green Chemistry principles by redesigning laboratory exercises to eliminate hazardous reagents. Additionally, he has evaluated fellow educators to uphold high teaching standards and has provided constructive and timely feedback to students to support their academic development.

Beyond his teaching career, Professor Hossain brings more than 15 years of laboratory expertise, split between 8 years in academic research and 7 years in the pharmaceutical industry. His hands-on experience spans a wide array of analytical techniques and instrumentation, including gas chromatography, high-performance liquid chromatography, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. He has played a pivotal role in pharmaceutical development, notably contributing to bringing a novel anti-cancer drug to market. His industry achievements include developing discriminating dissolution methods for various formulations of Sotorasib, conducting pivotal experiments, and authoring key sections for the Omecamtiv Mecarbil and Sotorasib New Drug Application (NDA) S31 filings. Furthermore, Professor Hossain has actively participated in addressing regulatory inquiries (RTQs) for Sotorasib across the US, EU, and Japan.

Professor Hossain is dedicated to ongoing professional growth, frequently attending workshops and seminars to enhance his teaching methodologies and laboratory skills. His commitment to scholarship is evident through regular presentations of his research at academic conferences and symposiums. Passionate about STEM outreach, he volunteers at underrepresented high schools, inspiring students to pursue careers in science. Additionally, he participates in community outreach initiatives aimed at promoting science education and advocacy, reflecting his deep commitment to making a meaningful impact both within and beyond academia.

Professor Hossain also served as a Grand Judge at the 2024 International Science and Engineering Fair and as a judge at the 2025 California Science & Engineering Fair, highlighting his active role in supporting and evaluating emerging young scientists.
