Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) stood out at the 2025 Society for Acupuncture Research (SAR) Conference, held April 3–6 in Newport Beach. Faculty, students, and graduates alike were selected to present their work, a testament to SCU’s excellence in research and integrative medicine.

SAR is the leading international organization for acupuncture research, with its annual conference bringing together members from 28 countries–including researchers, students, health professionals, and educators. SAR’s goal is to support solid science in acupuncture and Oriental medicine by hosting conferences, think tanks, and events to share research advances and close the gap between research and real-world practice.

SCU’s six featured presentations included:

  1. Acupuncture for chronic low back pain: Research, advocacy, and policy questions -by Dr. Jim Whedon and Dr. Prasad Vinjamury
  2. Utilization of learning assessment software for comprehensive exams in an acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine first-professional doctorate program
by Dr. Jennifer Noborikawa and Dr. Prasad Vinjamury
  3. Integrating Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) approaches for managing essential tremor and anxiety: A case study – by Haeni Kim (Fall 2024 graduate), Clifford Lee, and Dr. Prasad Vinjamury
  4. Integrative group health visits for managing healthy blood sugar – by Madison Park (Fall 2024 graduate), Tatiana Mikhailova (Term 5 DAcCHM student), and Dr. Prasad Vinjamury

  6. Traditional Chinese Medicine in the management of hyperprolactinemia: A literature review – by Tatiana Mikhailova and Dr. Prasad Vinjamury

Two SCU students earned a special honor: Haeni Kim and Tatiana Mikhailova were chosen for the Junior Researcher Data Blitz. Only 12 talks were selected for this fast-paced session, and SCU claimed two of those slots.

“It was one of the most inspiring experiences I’ve ever had,” said Kim. “It was truly inspiring to meet so many dedicated professionals in the field and to feel a sense of shared purpose around advancing integrative medicine. Being part of it was an unforgettable experience, and I’m incredibly thankful for the support and opportunities that made it possible.”

SCU’s strong showing at SAR highlights its role as a leader in acupuncture research and continues to support the students and faculty who push the field forward. Learn more about SCU’s Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine programs and start your journey today.
