SCU offers a unique sports medicine emphasis for students in the Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) program. Students and residents focus on the world of sports medicine while learning to cultivate their skills, specialize in the field, and become the future leaders of tomorrow’s sports medicine community. We take great pride in the success of our sports medicine program that boasts world-renowned faculty and alumni. Students provide care for all levels of athletes from high school to world-class professionals and are immersed in exclusive, integrated sports medicine experiences. Students who complete the Sports Medicine Emphasis receive a Certificate of Completion and the emphasis is noted on the transcript. Active Training Approach

Students have the opportunity to work in SCU’s highly reputable Human Performance Optimization Center (HPO), located on-campus alongside residents and faculty of the highest caliber in the sports medicine industry.

Hands-On Practice

You’ll have the opportunity to work and practice at sporting events like marathons, triathlons, endurance cycling, weightlifting competitions, international taekwondo, high school, college athletics and so much more.

Networking Opportunities

Students are exposed to key industry leaders throughout the program and through networking events and opportunities.

No Additional Time or Cost

The sports medicine emphasis is part of the required 22 credits of selective courses, so earning your certificate of completion doesn’t add any time or expense to your education.

Hands-on curriculum

Our sports medicine curriculum builds upon the foundational skills within our DC program. It is evidence-based and focused on outcomes and advanced competency in diagnosing, treating, and preventing athletic injuries. The curriculum also covers the applications of peaking and recovery programs for sports performance optimization, exercise prescription, and advanced rehabilitation. Areas of study include:

  • Sports chiropractic concepts
  • Clinical diagnosis to return to play
  • Strength and conditioning
  • Sideline skills
  • Biomechanics
  • Tactical sports medicine
  • Tactical strength and conditioning (TSAC)

Present your skills in the classroom, the clinic, and the sidelines to the world

With the SCU sports medicine emphasis, you’ll get to attend and present at sports symposiums like the ACBSP Sports Symposium, ACA Sports Injury Council Symposium, and CCA Sports Rehabilitation Symposium. You’ll also work extensively with world-class sports physical faculty member Dr. Joe Horrigan, Conditioning Coach for the LA Kings and Huffington Post Regular Contributor.
