Transfer and Prior Learning Credits

SCU is committed to offering advanced standing options as a way to recognize the prior relevant training and education of students, reduce student educational costs, and facilitate progress toward graduation.

Elective course credits are eligible for advanced standing options including block transfers, transfer credit for individual courses, and prior learning credit.  All other 38 credits must be completed at SCU.

The DrWHL program has evaluated several educational programs and determined that they align with the DrWHL program learning outcomes, adhere to graduate-level standards, and qualify for block transfer.

  • Individuals who graduated from an Integrative Medicine fellowship recognized by the Academic Consortium for Integrative Medicine and Health (ACIMH) receive 13 transfer credits to fulfill the elective course credit requirement.  A listing of ACIMH recognized fellowships is available at this directory.
  • Individuals who have completed the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) Lifestyle Medicine Residency Curriculum (LMRC)  will receive thirteen (13) transfer credits to fulfill the elective course credit requirement. A listing of sites and programs offering the LMRC is available at this directory.
  • Individuals who completed the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM). IFM Functional Medicine Core Curriculum will receive 9 transfer credits towards the elective course credits requirement.

DrWHL students are eligible for up to 11 prior learning credits based on the completion of a prior learning credit portfolio and a combined maximum of 13 transfer credits and/or prior learning credits.

  • Students can receive transfer credits for individual eligible courses based on previously completed relevant graduate coursework.
  • Prior Learning Credit can be awarded for documented and assessed graduate-level learning that ties the student’s prior experience to the course content. Students may receive prior learning credit for recognized certifications, credentials, and/or licenses in select fields or credit for demonstration of subject mastery gained through life experiences, service in the armed forces, paid or unpaid work-related activities, community service, or other learning acquired outside traditional academic institutions.

Please contact an Admissions representative for additional information about the transfer credit process and prior learning credit process.
